Thank you very much, Quickdraw. The second owner told me that it was a local car purchased in the Boise area but couldn't remember the dealership. He happened to be at a different dealer when the car pulled in to be traded. He bought it on the spot. Now we have it and so far so good. It sounds like it's almost rare. He told me that the partial red interior is what caught his eye. When I saw the selling pictures he posted, it sold me too. Thanks again C&D's bird

There really isn't much decoding to be done on the VIN, it actually tells very little about the car. The VIN is used however to lookup the relevant information.

To coin a new word, Black/sand interior might be the secondmostawesomest, but Thunderbird Blue is the awesomest. I think one of the Thunderbird books might even stated that as fact.

Yes, you see the fallacy of their "rare" claim. I consider merlot to be the MOST prolific color of all. There were 3,991 merlots, of only 12,757 2004s produced. That's a whopping 31% of the total years production or almost one out of three.

Thank you Harry, and thank you for the 'nice' comment. Fortunately for me, I originally bought a new 2002 Blue Premium back in Nov. 2001. Kept it 8 years but when I retired and moved to country (with a mile of dirt road) I couldn't bring myself to drive on that road so I sold the car with 20k miles to a service manager of a local Ford dealer. But I happened upon this black one 3 days ago and couldn't resist. It has 94K miles on it but has been kept almost as well as I feel I would have done. Some chips on the front of the hood and a small indention on the top windshield chrome, but even with the miles, it drives and rides as well as I remember my new one. Of course the steering wheel has an aftermarket cover and the shift knob is worn, but otherwise extremely clean. I spend more time back down here in Texas on 'regular' roads so plan to keep this one for one of the grandsons one day. Life is good.
