OK, after fumbling twice it kinda matters that I set the record straight. We are back to 6/12/2002 when the only pre-7/27/02 cars matching a 2003 red, full red interior, SST, 7 spoke chrome wheel were built. The three built 6/12/02 like your photo were either VIN 3y100027, 3y100028, or 3y100029.

I still don't get it but personally don't care if I ever do, neat stuff ind totally interesting reading. I do have a question though. If they built these 3 2003s in June / July 2002, were 2002s still rolling off the line?

Harry can correct me but I believe they were still building 02's in November of 2002. the 03 production was a very short period before the 04's came out.

My sticker says $130.00 for SST and $125.00 for the boot, $595.00 for partial int. color acc. pkg. No charge for 17" 16 spoke machined wheels. No hard top. One of one.

As you can see there is considerable overlap on the first units of each year with the previous years model.
            First 2002 = 3/14/2001 - last 2002 = 11/14/2002 - units built first day = 23*
            First 2003 = 3/21/2002 - last 2003 = 6/27/2003 - units built first day = 4
            First 2004 = 4/16/2003 - last 2004 = 7/19/2004* - units built first day = 5**
            First 2005 = 4/16/2004 - last 2005 = 7/25/2005* - units built first day = 2**

*Typically the fist units for each year were made in very small batches and the units closely evaluated for assembly issues, fit & finish, etc. I suspect some of these 23 very first 2002s were essentially complete before the stated date but were not finished and recorded as built until 3/14/2001.

** These are the first days back after summer vacation shutdown. They were probably 99% complete before the shutdown began but were "finished" on the dates shown. Maybe the unit was set aside to replace a flawed part and therefore unable to be counted as "built" until it was ready to be released to shipping.
            .
            .

P.S. to answer Martin's question about the short build period for 2003s: Except for 65 units built from 3/21/2002 to 8/23/2002 the rest of 2003 production ran from 10/8/2002 to 6/27/2003 or less than nine months.

Here's one for you Harry: When you gave me my build info you said my 2005 Cashmere came with 7 spoke chrome wheels. I thought all the Cashmeres came with 16 spoke machined wheels. Was the 7 spoke a special order and do we know how many Cashmeres had them? Unfortunately when I got my car the stock wheels had been changed and I can't afford to replace them with what it came with. Thanks.

Much appreciated, I can now add a VIN to a picture. (more random useless facts). btw, the person standing with the Bird, Roy Hayward passed away a number of months ago. Not sure if you met him at the Glen / ITC meet.

If I told you yours had 7 spoke chrome wheels I musta had a brain fart and was auto-answering. All the Cashmeres were built with the 16 spoke machined wheels. Sorry

No problem...that will make it easier to replace to OEM. I brain fart all the time, you're allowed too.

G'morning. How many Birds were shipped to Canada? What were the wheel options? I have it in my mind that '02-'03 were the 21 spoke painted only???!!!

                                G'morning Bill,

2,961 Thunderbirds were built for Canada. Only the 738 2002s had painted wheels - all were 21 spokes. The rest of the Canadian Tbirds had 7 or 21 spoke chrome wheels, or 16 spoke machined wheels, just like the USA units.

Not sure what happened on the query I made upon the database on the above statement, or what I was thinking, but yes, there were 2,961 Canadian Thunderbirds. Of that, 2,544 were 2002s and ALL had the 21 spoke painted wheels. The remaining 417 units (2003-2005 Thunderbirds) had 7 spoke chrome wheels or 16 spoke machined wheels with the exception of 55 007s that had 21 spoke chrome wheels.
