When the T-birds were on their own line, it took about 4.5 days. I assume it's about the same now that they're mixed in with the LS.

Do they build the whole car in one day?

Dot's 4-1/2 day figure sounds about right for starting from scratch with nothing in the pipeline. However, if you were able to go the assembly plant in the morning and ask for a car to be built to your specifications I'm guessing it could be done in six hours. It's been years since I was in an assembly plant and things might be a little different now (but I doubt it). When they go to build a specific car they would take a generic body painted the appropriate color, and send it down the line with a build sheet telling the operators what options and trim to install. While the car goes through the trim dept for the dash, glass, door panels, etc a platform is also going down the chassis line. There the suspension components, engine & transmission, brakes, etc are assembled. At the "body deck" the body is mated to the proper platform and would continue down the line for final assembly.

Dot reports that this date should be 9/25/00 - "the first day that people were allowed to order the NM editions" I can't explain the date discrepancy as Birddm's NM edition also shows the 9/15 order date. Maybe Neiman Marcus placed the order for all 200 10 days before they were offered to the public?
