I've been looking these numbers up for over a year and a half and now in just the last week Ive had my first two VINs that weren't in the system. Chris, please recheck the last six digits on the windshield tag and make sure you copied them correctly.

“THE EDGE,
there is no honest way to explain it
because the only people who really know where it is
That is the correct VIN number. I checked the plate on the inside of the windshield, the "MSRP sticker" from the car, and the title. The numbers/letters in the lower right hand box on the sticker are:
2L041 N RA2X 255 002860 11 04 02

Don't know if those will help or not.
Thanks, Chris
No sorry, the system I access just takes the 17 digit VIN and it comes up empty... Perhaps the OAISIS system has the info and in that case the dealer or Joe Varey could look it up...
Thanks alot for all your trouble, Harry. I seem to remember someone telling me once that it was built in October of 2002 - right before the 2003 production started.
Maybe Joe Varey will look it up for me.

Chris, the 11 04 02 is when the sticker was printed out which was before yours hit the production line. It's probably only 1 or 2 days from starting on the line at that point. I wonder if the wrong check digit was entered in the system?
Quickdraw, have you tried other check digits on it?

I tried all 11 check digits and it didn't recognize any - that's why I assumed it was one of the lat six that were wrong.
Thanks for the info Dot. I guess my Bird wasn't built in October 2002, but in November sometime. When did the first 2003's start production? The only time that I've had any warranty work done was for the boot--it had two snaps missing so they (Ford) sent me a 2003 boot. Every time I take the car in for service (oil changes, etc.) at either the Ford or L/M dealer, they take the serial number and enter it into their system, so I've never questioned it and they didn't either.
Harry, I checked all the other letters and numbers and they are correct according to the plate behind the windshield.

Thanks again for all your help.
Chris, the 02s ended Nov 14, and the 03 started up week of the 18th. Yours would have been built during those last 10 days of production.
Joe Varey was kind enough to get me all the info on my Bird. Dot you are right on!!! It was built on Nov 12, 2002. So I guess it was one of the last 02's built.
Thanks again to everyone for all the help. One other question. Does anyone know what the "offset" is for our stock wheels?
