      Re: Where are the cashmeres?

I saw one on Key Biscayne today but was unable to get the number. It looked like the matching hardtop was padded vinyl. I am sure I will see it again and will get more info.

          Re: Where are the cashmeres?

My wife ordered the 50th Anniversary Edition for my surprise 50th birthday. The car showed up at the dealer but somehow somebody else ended up with the car. She had the dealer call the area ford rep. and read him the riot act. Needless to say She ended up getting a different car. I am not sure if maybe the # car she had was one someone wanted or what. I do know I have seen a few around. Mine is 270/1500.

(since I am new here, I am unaware of what the nnn/1500 numbers designate)

I live in Hanford, California, and have a cashmere 2005 50th.

any information you could provide about numbers made in this color would be of great interest.

Gary first of all welcome. I believe there should be a little plaque in the glove box telling where in the total production yours was at. Don't own one so I'm sure a Cashmere owner will expand. Once again welcome and enjoy!

                Re: Where are the cashmeres?

                Welcome, Gary.

As Bill said, the cashmere retros have a plaque in the glove box with the number on it. Keep in mind that the plaques were chosen out of a bin at random not in the order the cars were built, so the first car built may have had a plaque that said #241 and the last cashmere built might have said #654 on the plaque.

No matter the number they are pretty cars. One question for you. You say in your info that your cashmere has a white top. Cashmeres all came from the factory with cashmere tops. So is your top actually cashmere or is there something going on we would be interested in knowing about?

                  Re: Where are the cashmeres?

                  Just updated the list.

Be sure to check your glovebox for the plaque with your number on it, Gary.
If you see a bar code on the plaque, peel it off as your car's number will be underneath it.

Learn something new about the Birds everyday. Would never doubt anything a guru like Paul would state as fact. I am totally amazed by that comment. While I have been out of auto plants for 12 years even before I left we were building entire dashboards based on exact specs/content being broadcast to our remote (had to be within 10 miles) manufacturing facility receiving the specific vehicle info to build from after the car left the paint shop. Had an hour or 90 minutes to build and deliver to the garage door by the manufacturing spot of assembly in build order. Believe me we NEVER got it wrong/late if you wanted to stay employed. Just have a hard time understanding (not doubting a bit) why this situation wasn't able to be controlled. Even if pulled from the line a cars info went with it so I can understand some gaps.

Ron any comments on Ford's build sequencing? How about the Inca Gold sequencing?

Bill, I'm not sure the glove box numbers were generally that far out of sequence. Its also possible the number plaque was affixed after the IP was installed by a line worker who just grabbed one out of a box of numbers. Is there a list of 007s, PCRs or Cashmeres that have the plaque number and the last five VIN? If I had that I could assign build dates to each number to see how far out of whack they really were.

Now, I will admit that I pulled the numbers out of the air, but Dot, myself and about 30 other TBNers stood right at the station where they just randomly pulled the plaques out of a bin and attached them without regard to sequence. The assembly person confirmed that there was no sequencing involved.

With a bar code over the number it would of been kind of hard to know what digits were under it.

Paul, I surely understood that your numbers were examples but I sure hope my post did not give you one moment of doubt that I believed your comment. Certainly respect you, Dot and so many of you who have had experience with this vehicle for months before build one and are still here with a wealth of knowledge.

Know it, believe it, just don't understand why. Can't believe (remember I spent 20 years in Finance taking costs of a plastic connector out to 4 decimal points before being asked to take part in the game instead of keeping score) that Ford would put this 'lil plaque in a car with out some importance. Especially with the systems in place at the time.

Maybe I should say "GM had better systems in place" to get Ron's attention before his second cup. (naw, don't believe it and I'm smarter than that.)

Even stranger was that they put a bar code on the plaque and apparently didn't scan it. I had asked Larry Fisher at Wixom about trying to identify which VIN got which number plaque and he said that information wasn't recorded anywhere.

Of all the lists of special edition plaque numbers do none of them have an associated VIN?
