Bill, I didn't think you were challenging my wealth(?) of knowledge. Ha, I can't remember where I was last Thursday, but when you see like something like that it makes you remember, because we would think there would be some sense of order to something as "important" as the sequencing of a numbered limited edition. It would certainly make a difference in the art/collectible world.

Numbers that you would think are significant, such as #0001 and #1500, become less so when you know that they could be on any of the cashmeres produced without regard to build sequence.

Harry's comment about the bar code and the technology available to easily track these things makes it even more curious why they did not.

I would think these plaques originally came in a box sorted by number. VIPs surely went thru the box peeling back bar code stickers to get select numbers for their cars as they were built.

From what has been stated here, the plaques were in a box on the assembly line, not at the supplier of the instrument panels. Therefore rotation number meant nothing to the plaque, just put one on. With a bar code on the plaque, it might have been a way to track, but it the bar code just identified the plaque, not the number on the plaque, nothing. Units are blended for color, options, and etc. and do not come down the assembly line in VIN. sequence. When I was at Ford an employee could have a freshly ordered unit pulled to the front of the line and built three to four weeks out of sequence. They are just one of the 700, 1,000, or 1,500. I am willing to bet that the last VIN cashmere that I am looking for will not be 1,500 of 1,500.

Is there a list of 007s, PCRs or Cashmeres that have the plaque number and the last five VIN? If I had that I could assign build dates to each number to see how far out of whack they really were.
There are vin #s associated with the 007 and the PCRs lists that I've kept up but this list was originally started by another member and he didn't collect the vin numbers. We could still do that but some (many?) of the cars have changed hands since the list was started.

Someplace I have a picture of the bar code on one of the cars. Will have to go find it and see what # the bar code id'd.

The bar code just stated the # on the plaque. I've attached one that was on a Cashmere with vin#4641.

The reason I started keeping track of the serial #s for the 007 and PCR was our own curiosity here on whether the codes were in true serial # order or if they were random. The tracking we've done so far looks like they are out of order. Only have found short series of vins matching any order at all, mainly the first few built of any of the special editions.

Now if Quickdraw can go thru either the 007 list or the PCR list, and match build dates, we would definitely be able to come to a conclusion.

I couldn't find the 007 list of plaque numbers with VINs but from the looks of the PCR list they are pretty much in order: http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...71&postcount=1

Wow interesting list. Recognize Sixpac, Rondor and good old John Bakos. Think Mistyeyed also. Others this going on 3 year member does not recognize/remember.

Here are the missing build dates along with the plaque #... Dot will need to edit the post to add these dates. An unscientific sampling seems to indicate the build dates might be more closely correlated to the plaque number rather than VIN #.

Comparing my PCR with Sixpac's: My VIN is 227 higher and built 10 days after his, but my plaque no. is 19 lower. The box must have gone into the lockup crib after each shift and everything got scuffled
