Well I just got my new California registration -- one of the main reasons why Gov. Davis got recalled. Registrations were to triple....

Reregistration on a 03 Bird with a special plate....

    $821...

All the rest of the states are luckier

I can't imagine paying $800.00 for a tag. Ours are under $30.00 per year, but we do have property tax.

Registration combined with personal property tax somewhere between $800-$900, can't (and don't want to) remember exact amount.

It seems VA's every bit as severe as CA's.

We used to have similar registration fees to California, but the voters passed a referendum a couple of years back so that registration would not exceed $30 per vehicle. So I now pay $159. (We can't figure out why it's more than the $30, but at least it's come down a lot!). Our state is blaming everything now on the loss of revenue from car tabs.

2002 Bird in Vegas for me this past July:

Registration Fee- Passenger vehicle = $33.00

                    Basic GOV Services Tax-Clark County= $422.00

Supplemental GOV Services Tax- Clark= $106.00

                    Total = $561.00

                    Personalized plates = $96.00

Taxes and Title fees = $2292.73

Grand Total for the day = $2949.73

Now next year registration will be slightly less than the $561.00, and each year there after will be less than the preceding. Personalized commemorative plate will be the same at $96 unless ofcourse fees go up!

                      Registration fee

Todd, I'll only charge YOU $120, everyone else $240! Seriously, that is OUTRAGES MONEY there charging out there. Back in the days, that was a down payment on a condo! I, on principal, would never pay them that kind of money. I think they want the people of Nevada to go into the Casino's hoping to make a score just to pay those monies. Everything these days is out of whack! The Terminator is Govenor of CA!

                        Todd

Hey, if you would've bought your Bird here in Oregon where there is no sales tax, wouldn't you have been able to reduce that amount quite a bit?

I mean, I know you would've had to pay basically everything else you listed, but wouldn't a Nevada resident get around having to pay the sales tax by buying out of state? I don't know what the sales tax rate is on cars, but isn't the sales tax 9% on most items bought in Nevada?

By the way, sorry that I didn't contact you this past weekend when I was in Las Vegas. I almost didn't make it to Las Vegas at all because Alaska Airlines made a mistake and cancelled my reservations when they were trying to refund another person's money, and their name was similar to mine. I had my printed receipt that had all my info on it, including your number, but when all of the trouble came down, and they finally worked it out, I had to basically run to catch my plane, and the counter person kept my old reservations information, the sheet that had your contact # on it. Only, I didn't realize it until I got to Las Vegas.

Oh well, another time, hopefully! If there's another big fight between now and the time of the proposed Las Vegas Meeting, maybe we can hook up then too.

Licensing and registration is $51 every two years here in Oregon. If you live in the Portland Metropolitan area like I do, you have to get DEQ tested every two years, and that's $21 of the $51 you pay. But I've heard rumors that they're going to be raising that soon like everything else it seems. But then again, Oregon residents pay 7.7% income tax, in addition to some of the highest property tax rates in the nation!

It's hard to soar with T-Birds when you drive amongst turkeys!

                          Gary,

I did by my Bird out of state, Massachusettes! That's how they got the $2292 from me.

State just raised sales tax in October to 7.5%, but there is currently no state income tax. I am used to NJ's taxes and expenses so I don't get too worked up about it here like the long time locals. Federal is ENTIRELY different- HATE April 15!!!!!!!

Oh don't worry about last weekend. Good excuse though, I guess Tony and my posts frightened you off . If you want, my wife and I can set up a for you!!

Tony I do agree the fees here on certain things are outrageous. I don't understand their calculation for these fees other than the more expensive the more you pay!

Geez Tony "back in the days" how far back are you going? Was I even born yet? We need to get a smiley of an old man for me to use on this site!! Can anyone manage that?

If you're a Virginia resident and buy your car out-of-state, they charge you for the sales tax when you register your car for the first time...you can't avoid the tax by buying a car out-of-state.

We just received a $815 bill from the California DMV for our '02 TBird registration for next year. That is way too much!

Maybe the new Guvernator can reduce that after he takes office. I hope so!
