    Re: Headlight Yellowing

I need to qualify the yellowing on top of the headlights on my 02. The yellowing showed up in the last couple of years, it's slight, and mine is in the garage or under a carport most of the time. However about 2 or 3 times a month, it's outside in the sun for about 9 hours for the past 8 years and it has 152K miles. The front of the headlights have been polished several times due to hazards of driving that many miles.

Now, on the 05, no yellowing has occurred, no waxing of plastic, parked inside 96% of its life and 65K on the odometer.

Mine was outside its first eight years, and was treated for yellowing several times.
In the past two years it has been garaged, and outdoors typically a few hours per week. No yellowing since the last treatment.

Does anyone know if putting the X-Pel protection on the top of the headlights prevents yellowing?

What's weird about this is that I have a friend who is a member that has a 2004, his are yellowing and mine are not. Our habits are pretty much the same - we both have extremely low miles, store the cars in the winter and really only take them out for quick joy rides and shows.

          Re: Headlight Yellowing

I put the X-Pel clear protection on our headlights many years ago. It seems to have minimized the yellowing of the lens. No significantly noticeable yellowing so far (knock on wood).

            Paul,
Does the Mason-Dixon line extend all the way across the US? I realize this is sort of a dumb question but I don't know and I didn't answer question 17,18.

Another factor not considered in the poll is climate. Though I live in Washington State, known for it high humidity, I live on the eastern side of the state where it is very dry, very sunny, very hot in the summer very cold in the winter with very low humidity.

I have never seen any moisture inside the headlamps as has been reported.

I too have clear protection on the headlights. This clear plastic sheet is cut & fitted to only cover the clear surface of the lights. It does not come up & out to the edges to the fender lines.

Technically, no. It forms the border between PA, MD, and DE (where it runs North/South). For our purposes I believe it would be fair to extended it westward.

Not really, but for these purposes we should extrapolate it all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

Chuck, I had an XPel front end package installed on my Lincoln, including the headlights and driving lights. It came with an unlimited mileage, 10 year warranty against yellowing, though I have not sifted through the fine print to find out what really would happen if there is a claim. I bought the product more to protect the hood and side mirrors, so the headlights and driving lights are a bonus. Based on various websites, XPel gets much higher ratings than competitors like 3M, so I gave it a try. Will let you know how things go in 2025.

You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your headlights with Pepsodent.

Keep brushing Charlie! I took George's recommendation and put on the protective covers. They were not cheap at $49, but no more worries on that subject. The 'set' came with custom cut pieces for both the headlights and the auxiliary lights. If anyone wants my covers for the auxiliary lights they are free....I've already got mine covered with the blue 'skins' that Craig Madsen sent me....Now..not sure if I have free time or if I just forgot everything I was supposed to do..

Greg: My supplemental covers only stayed on for a year. Maybe those lights get hotter than the headlights - So, Good move on your part So, anyway I took them off and pitched them.
