  • Speaking of hardtops

Many retro owners live in the South and we have many nice top down days in the winter. However even in Fl. as this week we have real winter weather. I like the change of having the hardtop on but like the sunny mild top down days as much. Lately I enjoy the hardtop as much in July and August as Jan and Feb. Curious as to when My Fl. neighbors put their's on. Jul. and Aug. are too hot in day and too damp at night.

Now that I've mastered using the power hoist by myself, I use the hard top more. Previously, perhaps only in the hottest months. That's when the Bird was our second car, not just a fun cruiser and car show attendee. But then I wanted to sport the roadster hard tonneau whenever I cruised. Those panels are a PITA to install and remove, so when there was a chance of rain, the Bird stayed in the garage. The hard top is on now because I needed to drive it in for service when it was rainy, and installing the hard top is quite easy. That black vinyl top with the port hoes looks so much better than the soft top. If I weren't so taken with the roadster look, the hard top would see more use.

We sold ours about 2 years after we moved to FL. It just took up space in the garage, and we realized after a while that we likely would never put it back on as long as we lived in FL. We sold it to a nice couple from Paducah KY, met up with them in Nashville during the TBN Ten Thunder event. We put a ton of $$$ into our house here, so we're not going anywhere for a while.

If I were to remove or install more than a couple of times a year I too would install a hoist. Fortunately I have 2 teenage grandsons nearby that work almost as good as a hoist, but a little more expensive.I probably use the hardtop more in late summer than any other time. The car is cooler quieter and looks better with it on.

Ron I live in Palm Coast Florida south of St Augustine north of Daytona Beach.Running the top off in summer here is brutal. Can someone say sun stroke ?? It's brutal out .But come November it's just perfect out to run the bird topless. And evenings are amazing !! My only problem is the weight is big for me and the bride to handle so I am looking into some form of a hoist. My wife loves the hard top on she thinks it looks better and she loves the porthole window. For myself I love it both ways on and off.I must say we get a whole lot of looks with that top off !!

Our top stays on most of the time. My wife doesn't like top down touring because it messes up her hair. Go figure! I would love to take the top off about April and back on in Oct. here in the mountains. ( It's her car I bought it for a birthday present )

I placed my WW top on a few days ago, and to me the car looks so much more beautiful with the top on. I am going to keep it on this year for a while longer into the summer.
