  • An Important Day In Ford Thunderbird History

This is an important (the most important?), benchmark date in Thunderbird history. On September 7, 1954 production of the iconic Ford Thunderbird began.

Did you notice that the red car has no porthole? Great pictures. I had a '55, yellow and it was cleverly called "Yellow Bird". No porthole and a six volt electrical system.....a real pain. If it didn't start on the first couple of tries it wasn't going to start. Also, it had no soft top.

They all came with a hard top . The soft folding top was an option .
