  • Hardtop Protective Trim?

I've been looking at hardtop protective trim. I thought I saw some that was black vs. chrome/stainless. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Much thanks in advance.

A related question - will a hard tonneau installation be affected if hartop protective trim is installed?

Now that is a good question.. my guess is no, but would never have thought to ask ...

justjon, Unless you want the additional trim on your car, I just put a strip of masking tape about 3/8s of an inch along the rear edge were the hard top seals against the paint. Then when I take the top off for the Summer I just pull it off. I buy the professional grade tape too. I can't see paying big bucks for some stick on junk that will probably start peeling off someday and might damage the paint worse than the top rubbing on it. Leroy

I haven't used painters tape yet but I am using closed cell half inch weatherstripping which works great and is probably overkill.

I replaced the weatherstripping on my top also. The original Ford stuff was whimpy. The stuff I used is like a 1/2" Dia. styro-foam and I glued it inplace after cutting the old stuff off. No more top rattles on bumpy roads or RR tracks. Leroy

I have used the chrome wheel well moulding called prostripe, part # 85-2005 which should be installed in warm weather. It is very easy easy to install and if it gets scratched up it can easily be removed and replaced. A 20' roll usually costs about $20.00. It is the same as protekto trim, a cowles product. Part # 37-1550. It also shows #m855005. Cowles products come from New Haven CT 06511.
The hardtop fits on top of the moulding and seals nice and tight. When the top is removed, the chrome adds a little more bling to the look of your T-Bird.
            Take care,
            Jim...
