you would but me, I would want them more stylized than that - doesn't seem to fit the rest of the design on that car - and position seems to be too low, making the chevrons look rather clunky.

If this is going to be in the ballpark I would suggest the designers drop the outsized rear wheels and the big ass. Part of the Thunderbird appeal is in the slope of the trunk....it makes the car different even if it loses space....and if that means losing the retractable hardtop, I'd lose it...or design the car around the look rather than the mechanics of the top...even go back to rag if necessary and offer a coupe version....by the time this car makes it to the street the rag top might be so unusual people will think it is something all new.

From my perspective it kinda looks like GT40 meets Corvette.

They got it right the first iteration....if this picture, beautiful as it is, is the next generation,it is going to be looking at a next generation buyer....and maybe that's the right thing to do.
My first thought was that it reminds me of the Jag XF.

                  Re: A new Thunderbird???

According to popular belief, the 2002 to 2005 Retro Bird wasn't about being a sports car or a luxury vehicle. In fact it's said that it didn't know what it was and didn't fit in any catagory and was too expensive for what it was. If Ford does come out with a new Bird, I wonder how they would take this into consideration? On one hand, I think that Ford has other things to worry about now, but on the other I say that Ford could create some excitement if it did develop a new Bird. Let's see what happens. Interesting topic.

                    Ken:
In 1955-57 they called the TBirds "personal cars"
In 2002-2005 they called them "Roadsters", so never sports car or luxury car, although some may think of them as such.

The originals were also called "doctor cars" because so many of them were driven by doctors and the doctor parking lots had a lot of T Birds in them. Today the lots are full of lots of brands but not Thunderbirds. I suggest that is because the Beachboys are no longer a viable group and "fun, fun, fun" is no longer the name of the game. Whatever the designers did to the 02-05 cars they didn't take the fun out of them.

All true, but the media can see it differently and print their opinion. They can make you or break you it seems.
