  • I thought I had made up my mind....

....to sell my Thunderbird Blue '02.....until I started reading posts again. These little birds are addictive. I haven't been here in nearly a year. I bought a motorcycle last April 30 and kind of put the bird "on the shelf". I have the Bird, a 59 Galaxie Conv, a 57 Fairlane 500, a H-D Superglide and my beater '89 Merc (actually a little old lady car that's in pretty nice shape). My wife has her M-B conv. I have to rent storage for my stuff. Been wanting a big a** garage, but she always finds something more important to do with $$ She suggests if I want to spend money on a garage I should sell a car to get some cash!...anyone else see the paradox in that (or is it irony)?
I've been seriously thinking of selling the Bird this spring, I hadn't been watching prices, and when I looked on Edmunds and KBB I was pretty dissappointed. My car is still under 30K miles and not mint, but close. The book prices felt like a slap with a wet shop towel!
    Oh woe is me......

If prices are low, sounds like a good time to buy a Bird!

That's for sure, It's a buyers market and the cars bring the best prices are the ones in MINT condition with low miles. An existing Ford warranty is a big plus too. Another thing is, money is tight, especially on used cars that you need a bank loan on. I feel sorry for anyone that paid big bucks for a Tbird a couple years ago and is still paying off a big note on a car that's dropped dramatically in value. With excellant credit you can get a new car for 30K for72 months at 0% interest, but try and buy a used one for 20K.

I don't have a lot of faith in low mileage.....especially these Birds. Under warranty I have replaced a wheel bearing, had the transmission fixed, the headlights replaced, installed new struts. I would recommend a hgher mileage car, loved by its owner who drove it and maintained it and kept all the records. I would especially look for the COP problem and the 100k warranty letter no matter what car is chosen. Low mileage may be the highest resale price but it is no guarantee of a trouble free vehicle.
