  • 1:18 TBird Blue Maisto Diecast with White Roof

Just by accident, within the last day of the ebay auction, I came across a TBird blue diecast with a white detachable roof. I have never seen one of these colour combos before. Considering I recently changed the roof colour of my own (1:1) TBird blue to whisper white, I just had to have this diecast to complement the real thing.

Did Maisto make many of these colour combinations?

Now if I could just find a set of 1:18 wire wheels with whitewalls......

Mark, Maisto didn't make any of that combo. Someone either repainted the top or used a top from a whisper white model.

I noticed that auction and almost mentioned it here. IF they top came off of an '02 whisper white Maisto model then the seller sure missed the boat for maximum return by not selling it with the whisper white model.

Anyway, congrats on getting a model of your car without having to buy two or doing a little painting.

Let us know if the top was painted or molded in white plastic.

Sounds like my diecast I made in 2003, I bought a Whisper White diecast and switched the hardtops, sold the car and blue hardtop to Ray.

I actually bid on that one early on, then decided to let it go when I saw another one I liked more...a 1/18 2003 DSB. I already have an 02 tbird blue (even with a white top I painted a few months ago). You'll like it...it looks really neat with the white top on it.

I won the DSB, by the way....Can't wait to get it in the mail. It's coming all the way from the UK.

                        Bobby:

The DSB will look great with a white top. This color combination was used in some of the very little print advertising done in 2003.

I received the TBird Blue with White Top diecast today in the mail. The top definitely is "factory" - you can even see fine silver detailing in the porthole windows. I am finding some very interesting details on this car - different than my other 1:18 TBird blues (all of which have a non-detachable hard top).

Very nice diecast, and the seller (from Houston) was an excellent ebayer.

then it might possibly be the whisper white top. how close does it match the whisper white on your real top?

Since the top is removeable, there is probably a boot cover that the top sits in. Are you able to take some close-ups of the car to show some of the differences? ie, do you have macro capabilities on your digital camera?
A very short run of the colors came with removeable tops - even box # was different than the other 1/18 2002 special edition cars. I have a yellow example of that model so could compare some of the details.

The match to my Whisper White top is extremely close - in fact I can't tell any difference.

But on inspecting "the details", I was wrong and there does not appear to be any differences. I have a "well used" TBird blue diecast that hangs out in my garage, and when I opened my "new" one which was still in the box, everything looks the same. You can't see the subtle thunderbird script on the rear fenders of my well used diecast, so that is where I thought the differences started.

This blue/white combo will proudly live in the nest (I mean the garage).
