  • Guess I've heard it all now...

I was out in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake this morning when I came across a gentleman with a '03 EB Bird. Conversation started off as usual - "do you belong to TBN?" -

He does not, and said he bought his Bird from a local used car dealer a few years ago. He said he was originally looking for a convertible, but "settled for this because the price was right". I honestly thought he was just being funny, but then he asked me if I knew "what those little handles are for below each porthole".

    So I told him.

I really couldn't tell if he was PO'd because he's been driving the car for 3 years without knowing it was a convertible, or happy to find out he had one. I do hope he joins us, because I have a feeling there's a whole lot more he doesn't know about his car.

This has happened to me too. When I was shopping for a TBird I asked a Salesman what color the convertible top was and he told me that this model was a coupe. He had no idea the top came off. Leroy

This is about the most amazing story I have heard about our car.
Did you tell him there is another roof stored underneath also?

Well, clearly some sales folks didn't do their jobs, or didn't know the answers (or take time to find out) either. That is why I was so impressed with what my salesman knew in September 2001 considering the first time he had ever seen one of the cars was the morning of the day we took delivery of it.

At Savannah Thunder in July 2008 a bunch of us met a couple from New York (I think). They owned a retro Thunderbird and had no idea that the hard top came off to make a convertible. As far as know they never did join TBN.

Funny I just posted the same thing a few days ago on a thread about stains on light tops. Met a gal in Daytona Florida with a 04 Merlot and Sand package. Had it since new but thought the soft top was a separate piece stored in her garage. She worked very hard and long hours and never had the time to figure things out about her car. Well the next day she saw her sand soft top for the first time and thank goodness it was pristine.

I do hope (and am sure) he'll get lots of fun out of his convertible.

Exactly. I also told him about T@TWH in July, and hope he comes, so that we can personally welcome him into the fold and share the fun we all have with our Birds and with each other. I just feel so bad that he went 3 years without all those top-down smile-miles!

Let's get something straight...this guy had this car for 3 years and NEVER noticed the up/down button on the dash for the top..hummmm; didn't wonder what the T-handle was for...and, by the way has he lived under a freakin rock...has not seen another T-Bird around with the top down and wondered...hummmm, maybe my car should be doing that. Perhaps, he was pulling your leg when he said he didn't know what the "lil lever was fo".....LOL. HeHeHeHeHeHeHeHe
