  • Outside Rear View Mirror Problem

    Retro'ers:
I slightly grazed the garage door frame just enough to partially pop-up the color back on the right outside rear view mirror. I was able to partially pop it back in... but I can't seem to fit it back in 100%.

Anyone have any ideas? BTW... no paint was scratched and the mirror is fine.

    thanks!

Re: Outside Rear View Mirror Problem

Wish I could help. I remember, there was a member went by Johnny Gumballs and before that name change he had another here on tbn that did a huge amount of chrome mods on his retro Bird.
One of the items he had chromed was the color inserts on his outside rear view mirrors.
Maybe one of the other members recalls how he got the inserts in & out for the chrome job.
You might want to try the search box here on tbn, maybe there woudl be a link
Glad for you that the paint never got damaged.
    Mike

Re: Outside Rear View Mirror Problem

I did the exact same thing a few months ago. The painted part of the mirror popped completely off. Luckily, it landed top-side-up with no scratches whatsoever. I quickly snapped it back into place while looking around to make sure nobody saw what I had done to my baby. I was afraid it might not stay on properly or pop off again while driving down the road, but several thousand miles later it is still perfectly in place. I had actually repressed the memory until I read your post. If your part isn't fitting back on properly, it may be that it is damaged.

I got the courage up... and popped it back in place. Nothing snapped, and seems to hold so far.

          thanks
