  • Hardtop compliments

Well the temp in the AM is down in the 40's so I sadly put the hardtop back on until next spring. Then I went for a cruise, me and some DooWop on the CD. I had my first "nice car" comment already with the hardtop on and two thumbs up from other cars. I seem to get more comments on the car with the hardtop on than with the top down. What do you think? What's your experience ?

My grandmother absolutely loves my car with the hard top on and "doesn't care for it" with the top down. I think the hardtop look is more elegant and the top-down look more carefree and fun. I guess that tells you something about my grandmother. I love both looks (and my grandmother)!

Top on draws the most attention and compliments.

I think Darsi captured it - sharper looking with the top on ... more fun with the top down!

MANY more compliments & remarks with the top on. It's just something about the porthole!
I got fussed at by a man on Monday in the parking lot at the fish market..."I can't believe you're driving that valuable car around doing errands." I told him it was a whole lot more fun than staring at it in my driveway, but he countered, "but it's an ANTIQUE!" - at which I responded that it was only 5 years old, then drove away as he stared. Without the hardtop, he never would have said that.

Well, that about nails it. Next time I'm out looking for a grandmother, I'm putting the top on. Maybe take her bingo winnings and go do the town up right.

                            Re: Hardtop compliments

Split on compliments. The younger crowd seems to like the top off. While the top on is more popular with the more refined viewer. At car shows, I have won twice with the top off and the one time with the hard top on - nothing.

People do overwhelmingly think that it's an older car with the hard top on though.

Too bad they couldn't work in a porthole on the soft top. And make it stain resistant while they are at it HA!

I don't know what other people think when they see my JBE 'Bird, but I think it looks much nicer with the hardtop on. Also, everyone who remembers the Classic T'Birds always identify them by mentioning the porthole hardtop, so that is probably why people are more attracted to those retro Birds which have the hardtops on. I suppose it's kind of like wearing a tuxedo without having a bow tie on !
