Owners manual.

This topic may be suitable for a new survay, if not done before.

How many of us owning a retro Bird have actually read the owners manual. Thought about this again today when someone asked about getting into the trunk without power.

Martin, I'm sure with a lot of these cars being bought used now that the owners manual has been lost or not turned in when the car was treaded.

You could be right Spence as many of us have had that experience when buying a used car. If buying from a dealer, I usually ask him to get me one if missing as they can still be bought over the parts counter if not out of stock. This problem comes up a lot with the older Birds and most of the owners manuals have been repro'd as you may have seen on ebay , dealers etc. Jim Osborne repro's many of the older ones.

However, a lot of times when we have a techical question, the owners manual is the last thing we tend to think of. Have done it myself many times.

When I took delivery of Goldilocks on May 21, 2005, I drove her home and took 2 days to read through the manual before driving her again on May 23rd. If you're going to strike a check for that much money for machinery, you'd better know how to operate everything on it!

I thourghly read manual several times during the first year of ownership.
Referred to it many times during the second, but in the last several years I rely on our Thunderbird forum.

You just can't beat the hands-on experience and knowlege of our members!

I offend reference the owner's manual. Reading about some of the problems newer owners seem to have sometimes makes me think if I know the answer to their question. If I don't I will go look it up.

I also purchased Ford's shop manual & electrical manual for my 05 Bird. I don't do indepth service & repair work on the Bird. That's for the folks thata have all the proper tools & hopefully the knowledge to do it.

However, I do get curious about how stuff works and I will look up problems I see here on TBN. Sometimes I can offer some help by doing this but most times I just learn more & more about our Birds.

Although I am the fourth owner of my 2003 Whisper White, the Owner's Manual was in the glove compartment where it belongs when I bought the car last May.

One of these days I have promised myself I will get around to reading it!

I read it the day after I took delivery. The day I took delivery I just drove it...Then I bought the shop manuals and electrical diagram book... then I started buying the sales literature from my year (2003)....
