  • This is for T

I was at a party a few weeks ago and most attendees were much yunger, the 30's to mid 40's crowd. I happen to mention we had a T bird and ended up in a lengthy discussion about old cars and how important they are to " car guys'. They were speechless when I told about buying a car at a junk yard for $25.00 and putting in a battery and driving it home. After about 20-30 minutes a nice " young" lady said I think all you car guys should be in a zoo. I imeditately replied that we were headed for one in a few short months. She just shook her head and walked away.

I have noticed that old guys usually own the old cars. My nephew is redoing a 38 Chev. coupe that his dad has owned for years, it is a hot rod.

I've got a 1948 Willys cj2a jeep I've been playing around with for about the last 5 years. It's a Hot Rod I guess you could say, it's got a 65 Mustang 289 cu.in. V-8 in it. I bought it to use at my Summer home in Michigan to haul gas cans for my boats, there is no place to buy gas on the lake. It's alot of fun to drive. Leroy

That young "lady" must be from the x generation. I'd like to know if there is anything she has placed any value on.

Ron, a high school buddy and I used to go to the police auction and pick up one or two "old cars" for the Demolition Derby (best thing we ever bought was a '52 Caddy). The last time, in '68, we paid 200.00 for five cars. Finally got the trunk open on a beat up '49 Pontiac...it was full of Craftsman tools! well worth the money.

              Sorry to hijack the thread.

Hey Ron, not to worry, its Winter. People will think about cars come Spring-time. There will always be those who appreciate a vintage thing. Some are conniesieurs of wine and cheese, some cars. Some have no taste at all!

We had the good fortune of visiting the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO about a fortnight ago. Got to see two steamers first hand, one in the hotel and one at the museum. Though built century ago, Stanley set a land speed record about a hundred years ago at 127mph! Way ahead of their time. Many have posted theirs to the you tube service:

                  Ron - -

Enjoyed the story. You need to take some pictures at the zoo in April and send them on to her, with a note that we took her suggestion seriously.

                  Thanks, T

tbird05cel, Here you go, I put the chrome exhaust pipes on it, they're BUBs, I had them on my Harley at one time. I've done a few other things to it too, but this pretty much the way I bought it. The 3spd trany and transfercase and axles are all original. I've got a brand new Best-Top for it with doors that has never been installed yet that came with it. I found it on Ebay. Leroy

I especially like the subtle emblems toward the rear of the hood...I'll bet you catch some hotshoes by surprise!

Because we can, Sally!!!!! Not really off topic since Tom was talking about "Old Cars" and "Old Men" I'm 60 now so I qualify in the "Old Men" bracket.

LOL now if you want to be tough.... put a wire cutter on the front... that's so when you go down the road with the windshield down and a couple of "enemy soldiers" string a wire across the road ... it will cut it before it can cut your neck..
