  • Yellow 2004 Bird?

I was perusing ebay and came across this car. Trim Tag is FX (Merlot). But it don't look Merlot. Doesn't appear to a quickie color change as well. Here's a few pix. Link below.

Looks like an 05 yellow. Sticker on the door doesn't match the car from what I see.

It's an 04, right down to the vin#

This is what happens when someone has a repaint done. Takes some extra dollars too.

Sures looks like an Inca Gold paint color to me, which is the 2005 T-Bird color. I have one, and the color looks just like mine. I don't think there were any 2004 Inca golds, so as someone said earlier, I think this car got a paint job at some time, but a nice paint job.

I would expect to see some form of the original paint around the trim tag, but I can see any red at all...

I've never had a car repainted. Do they typically paint the inside edges of the engine compartment as shown in the picture? If so, that was one great paint job!

What is it about this car I look at it and and I think to myself wouldn't own it if you
gave it to me. On the other hand I log into the site see the Thunderbird of the month and wow it just knocks my socks off.

I wonder if the door sticker actually belongs to a 04 Merlot. Couldn't a good professional with a heat gun remove the sticker and place it on another or can't these stickers be peeled with heat?

The number 4 just before the letter Y in the vin number is the build year. I believe this is an 04 door sticker.

2005s have the 50th anniversary saber on the front fenders not the simulated air flow vents.
2005 did not the v8 symbol on the fenders.

But this is a 2005 color. The Inca Gold color code is BI

They will, if the car is completely disassembled. That is why I'm sorta baffled by this car. Most repaints would just mask things and there would be overspray. I don't see any in the pix.

Look at the bolt next to the trim tag. It would have had to been removed or there would be some trace of the original color. On top of that, somebody would have to be real careful reassembling the car to make sure the fresh paint wasn't scratched during the reassembly.

Either somebody had this car special ordered (why does it have Merlot on the trim tag?) or somebody striped it down to the shell to do a color change.

Whatever happened, somebody REALLY wanted a Yellow '04.

Any members in Tucson who could check it out?

                        This is worth some investigation.

Assuming that the data plate belongs with the car, it originally was an '04 Merlot just as Mike stated. The color looks like IY on my screen.

The sand interior would definitely correspond with it starting its life as a '04 Merlot with the sand package.

Of course all monitors are different, but on my screen the color looks closer to Inspiration Yellow than it does Inca Gold.

Whatever color yellow it is - it's pretty obvious it is not the color it began its life with.

I'm with you Paul. It is an 04, and has been repainted IY. It is not an Inca Gold repaint -it is much too bright yellow.
