Lurking is fine, Sarah, glad you've been with us. I'm sorry your car has been such a problem. Could you tell us what is keeping your Bird grounded? Perhaps some here can help.Life without passion is no life at all.

This negative # 1 post was first posted in Mark's "Ottawa Summer Thunder" that was held this past weekend. Somebody being unhappey with their "car" does not belong in that thread. It was moved by one of our many Admins. mainly me.

Re: Getting Rid of Car
Perhaps if you had posted your problem 8 months ago, you could have found a solution and driven it for the last 7 3/4 months! Just sayin'...

Re: Getting Rid of Car
You'd suspect, if the car is ill for that period, it is waiting on a part? That assumes it's been down with just one problem (?) and that it wasn't a reoccurring issue (?). But without any information it's all conjecture. Either way, she obviously missed an opportunity to exploit the knowledge and experience of the members here.

Re: Getting Rid of Car
First Sarah did not post this I did. Her Husband Ronnie. Secondly, I was a ASE certified mechanic until I was placed on disability via the Veteran's administration for a Traumatic Brain Injury.
Secondly, I have spent the last six weeks and over a thousand dollars trying to repair this car. I first replaced the fuel pump, fuel screens, and fuel filter. I then replace both catalytic converters and mufflers. I replaced all eight coil packs and installed brand new NGK spark plugs. No matter what the vehicle still operated the same.
The car will start and idle but will not accelerate beyond 2100 rpms or drive over 5 miles an hour.
I took the vehicle to Silsbee Ford in Silsbee, TX and to Jasper Ford in Jasper, TX. The Silsbee people claimed that they replaced three coil packs and replaced the gaskets according to the recall and extended warranty but since I was beyond the 60,000 mile warranty extension, they wanted $135 an hour to troubleshoot the problem.
When I replaced the coil packs myself, the number 2 spark plug was coated with oil and only two coil packs were shown to be replaced.
Jasper Ford's shop foreman flat told me he would not even hook the car up to the tester unless I replaced the NGK plugs with motorcraft or autolite and all parts were Ford OEM. A violation of the Mangus and Moss act of 1975 which prevents auto dealers from forcing customers to use their products and allows the customer to choose which products he or she wants.
Afterward, the mechanic tested the vehicle which had 11 codes. He told me to change the 02 forward sensor on the right bank. I did and it did not fix the problem. The car acted the same.
I took it back to them and they tested it again. The mechanic told me the new fuel pump was not working. I bought and replaced it. Still having the same problem.
Apparently, either the mechanic does not know what he is doing or his computer testing program is getting a misread. either way.
I have spent over $1,000 dollars on a car that is valued at $13,000 per KBB and NADA and I own $15,000 on it. Currently, I am being offered between $8,000 and $11,000 for trade. a difference of $3,000 to $7,000. To put more money into a vehicle that I cannot get back would be asinine.
I am on a very fixed government income that may or may not be there thanks to washington. I cannot justify the expenditures.
Yes we love the car, but at this point we are broke and cannot spend money on a dead horse when we have a live ass to feed.

Re: Please don't attack ladytbird
No worries Sarah...I can feel your pain. I've never had those issues with a TBird, but I have had them with other cars. We just traded our 2008 SportsTrac in for some of the same kinds of issues; we loved the truck, but it had too many mechanical and electrical ghosts that wouldn't go away and no one could find or fix. I think there's some "lemons" in every brand and type of car; you just can't get around that. Sorry you've had so much trouble with yours, in addition to trouble with mechanics and dealerships. I think most of us here on the board have been fortunate to have owned very good quality Birds, but every now and then I read about a few that "misbehave badly". I hope your situation improves and you find the right car for you.

Re: Please don't attack ladytbird
How some one would get into a situation of owing 15k on a 2002 vehicle is probably the asinine part of this, however it sounds like you have at least two options
1) have some work done by a competent repair person and get your bird going again
or
2) don't and continue to owe 15k on what is now a nice boat anchor
