    Re: New/Used Thunderbird Poll

Out of the 9,433 members, there are only about 500 with more than 100 posts. A good number of those haven't been active for some time.

If we have 1000 members who have signed on to the site in the last year I will be very surprised. Maybe the admins have stats that can verify very easily.

Bill, 650 new members have signed on with TBN since 05/15/13.

Well, that makes sense Gene. Only a relatively small percentage of members post actively and regularly. And as we know, more than a few post questions, never to be heard from again.

Many of the 'regulars' use the site for social interaction and entertainment (jokes, polls, contests, stock market) and not just for technical questions or historical data.

It would be nice if more members posted or contributed more often, but I realize that some like to read posts, but rarely make any. And then, some members have a deeper interest in the Retros and all that relates to them.

          Charlie

another slow day at the Real Estate office:

there are 102 members who have at least 1000 posts. 4 or 5 are over 900 so new adds soon. Very interesting to observe that some haven't signed on in at least a couple of years and some whom (actually many) I do not remember seeing a post in my two years who have signed on (lurking?) today! Interesting.

I'd say I'm in the most posting group. I do have a high interest level! I've always wondered when a member passes away are they still a member? Then we have the rare cases like Quickdraw..a return y with 528 replies and over 11,000 views...priceless!

                  Re: New/Used Thunderbird Poll

The poll shows 98 members bought a new 02 and 52 bought a new 05.

By 2000 I had quit doing my own oil changes and light maintenance so I was around the Ford store pretty often between 02 and 05. I would always look at the Thunderbird while there and admire it. Somehow it looked classy, elegant and stout all at the same time, if that makes sense. I knew I wanted one someday. In 2002 I can remember msrp window stickers having a $5,000 + premium added to it and I also remember a new 05, must have been late in the year or in 06 that had a $7,500 discount off msrp.

To the question. How many new 02 buyers paid a premium and how many 05 buyers received a deep discount ?

I guess all the new 02 and/or 05 buyers are all gone or maybe just don't want to say either way. Just thought it would be interesting.

                        Re: New/Used Thunderbird Poll

I think most of us paid MSRP for our '02s, but their were probably some that paid a premium, especially those that bought very early one. I would venture to guess that most '05 buyers got at least some discount. Actually, heavy discounts were common as yearly as the end of the '03 model year. I've heard of some that got a $10K discount on '03s and '04s, but never really heard how high the discount went by the end of '05.

I ordered mine the end of 2000, came in in Jan. 2002 and my dealer at the time in York Pa. was charging sticker price for every Bird they sold. No mark ups.

I was fortunate enough to get my Neiman-Marcus through the original sale promotion by phone. I paid sticker price, no mark-up.

Most dealers in the L.A. area added mark-ups of $ 5,000, $10,000, even up to $ 20,000 in some cases.

I waited over 13 months for mine to be delivered and when it finally arrived the dealer gave me only 24 hours to pay for it and pick it up or he would sell it to someone else (at a substantial premium)

I paid a little less than sticker as my dealer paid the gas guzzler tax. Most dealers around my area had some type of bump added. The typical for my dealer was $3K. I have auction reports for late '01 showing sale prices of as much as $5-8k over sticker so I can only imagine what they tried to resell them for. A co-worker was offered $5K to give hers up by her small dealer in PA that was only getting two 02s. They had a $10k over deal and were willing to split it if she gave up her car. Not certain what decision she made but she and her husband were leaning towards keeping the car when it arrived. It is interesting to see the delivery dates for folks that ordered their cars when the order bank opened on January 10, 2001. I feel fortunate to have received mine in September. It would have likely been August if it had not been for the cooling system issues that held the early cars back. Yet some folks did. If get theirs for over a year. I know the line speed was slow at first. The fit and finish on mine is superb, but I think most from all years have been pretty good.

I ordered 15Again in November of 2000 (dealer could not order until 8 January 2001). I paid sticker price and picked up in November of 2001, one year and a day from when I ordered. I know of 2 dealers that were asking $10,000.00 over at the time.
Originally ordered from dealer in Ponca City, OK. But was only getting 2 and I was number 3. He found a dealer in Beaver, OK that would stay with the sticker price and that is who I ordered from.
