  • Extended warranty offer

Back 3-4 years ago I bought the extended warranty from Ford so I am still covered on my b2002 Bird.

Yesterday I received an offer from "FORD Notification, Dealer Services" out of St Louis, MO to extend my Thunderbird for "six additional years or 140,000 miles". Letterhead also has a picture of a RetroBird on the top right.

Anyone else get one of these letters?

George, I get these all the time also but don't think they are affilaited with Ford. It seems like all these aftermarket warranties are located around St. Louis. Don't know what the connection is there.

        George,

Is there pricing on this notification? I have gone to the local Ford dealer and asked about the extended warranty for my new bird and was given a few options, but now am wondering if there is something even better available through Ford. I only have a few days to decide, as my original warranty expires on June 8th.

I took a Ford warranty out before mine expired. That was back in February. I am still getting letters from warranty services. They all try to make themselves look like official correspondence from Ford. Be careful. I love the envelopes marked 'Official Ford Warranty notice', 'Ford Customer Notice', etc. Technically they never actually say they are Ford, so I am sure legally they are unreachable, but the materials are definitely designed to give that impression.

            Thanks Monty.
Magic; No, there is no pricing shown. They give a customer ID # and an 800 number to call. They also claim a tranny replacement costs $4800 & an engine $3800. and to call within 72 hours.
Although it does say Ford, quite possibly it is not.

              MagicFen,
I extended my 04 last August through my Ford dealer. I extended the 3 year warranty till 2011 or 4 years and the mileage to 48,000 miles, as I only put about 4000 miles a year on the car. I also opted for the zero deductable. My cost was $1800.00. I think it was a good choice. If I sell the car I can transfer the warranty to the new owner or if the car is totaled or stolen, I can turn the remaider in back to Ford for a refund. I found no other warranty that could compare to Ford. Ford will not recognize any other warranty. You have to pay the bill in full and send the Ford reciept to the warranty company and hope they send you something back

Thanks Marvin....I did like the TBird as part of the letterhead. Too bad it wasn't in color.

                    Re: Extended warranty offer

Just purchased an extended warranty for my new 03 Bird. Went through a notification from AAA. It's through AAA Auto Warranty. If I never use it, I get the full premium back. It's transferable, for $50.00, to another vehicle. Or, it can stay with the vehicle to the new owner. It's a 6 year, 75K mile bumper to bumper with a $50.00 deductable. The cost was just over $1500. I looked into a few other plans but this seemed to be the best one for the price. You can go to any Ford dealer for service to. My Bird only has 10K miles on it and I average between 3K and 4K a year. This plan can also be extended in a few years if I want.

MATBird, I get those notices too. I've saved a couple of them because of the picture, however, I don't know where they get their facts as they're always telling me that one of my cars is almost out of warranty (and I had bought a "real" Ford warranty that extended my coverage for several years). Most I just trash.

                          Re: Extended warranty offer

02LeeBird, The only problem with aftermarket Warranties is that Ford doesn't recognize them. Sure you can take your car to Ford or anywhere else for repairs but you have to pay the full bill out of pocket and then send the reciept to your warranty company and then hope you get something back. Ford or anyone else will not do it for you or bill your warranty company, it's your responsibility. With a Ford warranty the dealer subtracts all labor and parts that are covered under the warranty and then you pay for anything that wasn't covered. I extended my 04 last August for 4 years or 48,000 miles with zero deductable at my Ford dealer were I have my car serviced. It cost $1800.00 and is also transferable if I sell the car or I can cash in any remainder if I want for any reason. Leroy

                            Re: Extended warranty offer

Our Bird has been out from under the original Ford warranty for over 15 months, so there's no way we can get a Ford extended warranty. We're looking into the AAA warranty right now. It doesn't look too bad. Now that Ford has the COPS covered we might just buy the AAA plan.

Leroy I have an outside warrenty with Carchex.I had no problem with Ford.Car was repaired only thing was trans action was not finished on a friday and I left the dealer with a check for repairs. The check was returned to me on tuesday after they received payment. Most of the time the dealer doesn't want to do the call and paper work so they will tell you "you have to pay and receive payment".
