    Re: Extended warranty offer

The way my plan works is the repair shop calls in the repair to the warranty company and they provide the dealer with a credit card payment right over the phone. No waiting for checks, no hassles. (I hope).....Charlie, my plan is their "bumper-to-bumper" plan which covers everything the original warranty would cover. The only extra I added was the emissions warranty which covers the fuel sensors and a few other things, and they threw that one in at no charge as a Fathers Day discount.....The only draw back is that the plan kicks in after 1,000 miles. But I was told since I only put about 3K a year on the car, that if I have any problems after 2 -3 months they would probably accept the claim based on the low miles....If anyone is interested, just PM me and I will send you the phone number and information on the warranty company....

I'm still looking at the AAA plan. Before I make a commitment, I want to obtain a list of their "AAA Approved Auto Repair Shops". The reason being is that I was told that I had to have my car inspected for any pre-existing defects. I would have to use one of their approved auto repair shops. They located the one closest to me. Turns out the approved shop is primarily an oil change chain. I've got a lot of questions to ask AAA.

That doesn't sound anything like my plan. I'll have to check the info when I get home tonight but there was no mention of an inspection of any kind. Or any authorized dealer list. I do have 30 days to cancel so if I find out anything negative before then......Charlie, my plan is with AA Auto Warranty. Is that the same company you have been talking to?

I'm assuming that you meant "AAA Auto Warranty", so Yes, that's who I'm working with.

They also told me that I was free to use any "licensed repair facility" that I wanted to. Their definition of a "licensed repair facility" is one that will provide a 6 month/6,000 mile guarantee for parts and labor. Do repair shops normally give that kind of guarantee for repairs?

            Re: Extended warranty offer

Charlie my deal is with AA Auto Warranty not AAA. I just checked and the two are not the same. My mistake...... The URL link is AAAutowarranty.com for my plan. You might want to check that Website to see if their plan works better for you.....

Thanks Lee, that just cleared up a lot of confusion on my part. Two different companies with similar logos ......"AAA" and "AA" .

I always worry about someone who has to use AAAA or AAAAA or AAAAAAA in order to get attention.

                  Re: Extended warranty offer

                  Just got a Bumper-to-Bumper quote (60/75,000) for $1,635.

Since Ford is now covering the COPS problem, I think I'll just keep on trucking without an extended warranty. I wasn't concerned about one when we bought the car so we'll take our chances without one now.

I wouldn't worry about AAA (American Automobile Association), the've been around for a long, long time. They help on motel rates too.

                      All,
I got an aftermarket extended warranty on my 03 T-bird through my local creit union. I checked with several guys at work and they have had good luck with this company. They are called Auto Exam and they do require a vehicle inspection before they will issue coverage. I paid $1400 for 5 year 100,000 mile coverage. I live in Houston and they have an inspection facility locally. I haven't had to use the warranty yet but I'm hoping it will be ok. My credit union said to call them if I had any problems. Regardless of the source, do get an extended warranty. My wheel bearing replacement alone cost me $1400.

jettbird, I agree, any warranty is better than none at all. Repairs on these cars are always going to be big bucks becuase they're a unique car that are kind of rare. Also these cars sell for alot more if they're still under warranty. When I was looking for my Bird I wouldn't even consider buying one that wasn't still under the factory warranty, no matter what the price was. Leroy

The warranty would have expired by now and I've only had one $450.00 repair that would have been covered.

So say I got $7500.00 off another car on the lot with a warranty,
I'm still $10,000.00 ahead for any repairs I might need.

Yea! Only time will tell, but at least I know I'm coved till August of 2011 or 48000 miles. I've got about 36000 miles left. And from what I see these cars selling for on Ebay, an 04 with about 12000 miles and under the factory warranty till 2011. I think mine would sell in the mid 20s, not much less than what I have in it. Even more so now that I have the Hardtop.

Since we're not planning on selling we don't even think about whether an extended warranty, Borlas, or a hardtop adds to the value of the Bird.

I received an extended warranty from Ford today to replace a defective ignition coil on my 04 bird that causes a misfire condition which can cause a hesitation or surge upon acceleration or illumination of the check engine light. I am on my second gas cap replacement which I thought was causing the problem. Plannning to go to the delaer to see if this is the cause. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
