  • COPs......how many?

    .........do you keep "on hand"?

For me it's a full 8 now, as of yesterday. (Rockauto, very cool.......2 day delivery at the standard rate)

But I wonder......am I unusually paranoid now vs others on the forum?

After waiting to get my car back I couldn't help but think of the problem this might have been had I been away from home.

    Leads me to the question.

How many Coils, if any at all, do people keep on hand?

When you travel away from home and the security of your own garage in your T-Bird how many do you bring along, if any?

    Re: COPs......how many?

I'm taking 3 extras with us on our trip to Nova Scotia. Since there will be 4 cars, we want to have the parts if necessary. I know 2 of the cars have had all 8 cops replaced, including mine, so I don't expect them to be a problem. Better safe than sorry on a trip like that one.

Joyce, welcome to TBN. Use the search feature. There are more threads on COPS than anything else, I think. It's coil over plug.

I like your web name - I assume you are a Harry Potter fan? I am, can't wait for the release of Half Blood Prince next month.

                  Steve:

I keep four in the trunk along with a 7 mm box/open end wrench and socket.

I've had four replaced so that may tide me over for a while.

Sorry, but I'm new to the Thunderbird. What exactly is the COPs ?? Sounds like I need to get up to speed on this topic.
                    Thanks for your trouble.

                      Re: COPs......how many?

None, it isn't as if the car can't be driven with a COP or COP's failure. I drove my car for over 3,000 miles while trying to force the engine light to come on. This was not by choice but by Ford's refusal to touch the car without an engine light. The car was shuddering, vibrating, missing and still no light, yet for the most part the car ran like a million bucks.
Heaven forbid that after 9 COP failures it might happen again, but if it does I will just have to deal with it. That's why I always carry a cell phone to make emergency calls, a credit card, along with car and towing insurance.
For those that have never had a COP failure, quit worrying about it. There are far more Thunderbird owners that have never had a COP problem than those that have. Just get in the car and drive it, have fun, enjoy your Thunderbird!

None could replace them myself if have to. Try not to worry about things I have no control over.

It's the flashing red and blue lights you see in your rear view mirror.
