    Re: Seat Covers

I recall 10 years ago some were using sheepskin covers, I bet they are in the posts here somewhere

      Re: Seat Covers

Sheepskin seat covers and cocoa mats ... both were very popular a while back.

That was before cars offered heated seats, cooled seats, endless adjustments and even massage features.

And floor mats come is so many colors, styles and materials ... the simple cocoa mat, while still popular with some drivers, are just another choice in a very crowded field.

[QUOTE=JudgeLucid;586258]Keeping the original covers would be ideal, but am I not correct in assuming that most custom upholsterers take the various panels apart to make an accurate template/pattern?

Yes, I would buy a skin out of a wrecked one to use for that purpose.

Any good upholstery shop could probably do the same, but I'm sure it would cost more than buying from a company that already has the correct pattern and has made a set (or more).

And Keith, you could have your interior redone in all red like the 1999 concept, but it won't be inexpensive. Would look pretty neat though.

I envision a red package like the sand package except not changing the top color

            Re: Seat Covers

Just to drive a final stake in this vampire thread, I've attached a few photos of the red and whites available from leatherseats.com. The images are difficult to draw definitive conclusions due to sheen, etc., but I did notice that LS Ecstasy Red #248 closely matches the door panel and steering wheel colors. The seat inserts are slightly more orange than the Red #248. It seems to me that (at least on my car) the door panel color is slightly different from the seat inserts. 'Never noticed before, so I would think anyone wanting red inserts could go with the #248 without concern about matching the door colors precisely.

The two whites are compared to the Whisper White paint. The brighter white is
Ecstasy #301, the other, slightly off white, is just called White.

Phil is right, Leather Seats versions for the T-Bird are expensive, but do seem to be good quality leather and workmanship. They also offer perforated leather.
            Good Night, and Good Luck.

              Re: Seat Covers

              Thanks for that info Beau.

I've compared the Leather Seats samples to the leather in my 2002, and as may be able to see from the photos Beau posted, there's a pretty big difference in the actual leather surface. The Retros (all years) leather has a very smooth surface. The 'Leather Seats' leather has a 'pebble grain,' really no comparison to the Thunderbird. Throw in the color difference and it's even further from OEM stock.

I'd say that unless your seats are ripped to shreds, save your money and live with your original seats until correct OEM reproductions are available. They probably won't cost any more than the Leather Seats version.

                Re: Seat Covers

From this I gather that the seats in a P.C.R. are an advantage I hadn't thought about.

I don't see any real advantage in the PCR seats Ron, in fact, they may be even more difficult to match due to the cloth seat inserts and 'one-year-only' Light and Dark Ash material colors.

Let's see how these look in a WW with full red accent, perforated inserts.
Kinda costly, but I'm guessing it's worth it.

Hmm, I hit this post just after reading all the Colonel Sanders stuff. I could see the Colonel, sitting in that WW with these seats real easy like. :)

Agreed but they appear to be cooler. ie; the comments earlier. Does any other version have cloth inserts ?

Ron, the PCR was the only Retro model that had a cloth seat insert. The material was called 'Preferred Suede,' but it was not leather.

I'm going to be slightly off- topic to where this thread is at but the original post stated he had a problem with hot seats from the sun.
A quick and easy solution to that is to lean the seats forward when you're out of the car. That usually shades enough of the seat to make them comfortable to sit back down on later. The other quick solution is to put the soft top up.
