  • August is Over-Hurray

Just knowing the hot month of August is over makes me feel great this morning. Football in the air and when I get off work today I will go cruising in my Bird. I see these came in this morning so I will pick them up at my PO Box and have something to do with my Bird after I get off.

August was miserable here so I gotta agree. On the down side, winter is approaching.

I have to disagree & do so very strongly. July & August are two of the best months in the year.
problem for most is that you all live in the wrong climate zones.

Yes the weather has been harsh this year in many places, and fear it may become the weather patterns for the coming years but I'm all for a hot dry summer over a bitter cold knee deep in snow filled winter with all it's filthy black/brown slush, de-icer & salt that destroys everything.

Yep summer & especially August is the best.

Three days of 90's next week.

I spent most of this summer in the A/C house which was comfortable upstairs, but chilly in the lower den. My daughter, who works out of her downstairs den in a fairly modern house in Illinois, had to use a space-heater because it got too cold in her home office. (Even an editorial in our local paper highlighted staying indoors to be comfortable this summer.)

Too hot for auto shows. Even an evening show in usually cool Lyndhurst, NJ, was just ridiculous.

Thanks to the few weeks of rain, the gnats, spiders, mosquitoes, etc were abundant. I couldn't mow my lawn wearing shorts; needed jeans.

I can't figure out what I hate more, winters or summers.

It's a spectacular, magic world down to the smallest thing, and I'm alive to see it change through the months. I'm happy.

I'm happy that September is here, and October is just around the corner. In the immediate SF Bay area, we have had many summer days where the high was 67-68 degrees. Maybe up to 72 at mid-day. We live only blocks from the bay, which explains it. Travel 10 miles to Walnut Creek and you suddenly have 80's and 90's. You know the old saw allegedly coined by Mark Twain - "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." I'm ready for more "summer" weather, which we usually get about now. I grew up near the coast in Texas, so I'm familiar with 105 degree days and 78 degree nights.

What a great quote, I try to keep that attitude, but it's not always easy.

I'm on both sides of this debate!

I hate the winters around here and every year they seem to be getting more miserable. Spring never appears until late May then right into the heat of summer. August was nasty with all the humidity and it's coming back today and cranking up again tomorrow.

Why can't the Bay State have the weather the SF Bay area have!

Good to see the many different views about August. I do not really hate August, heck my birthday is very close to August ...July 28, but August it is a little tough to manage down here in Coastal south Texas. Mostly I just like the winter time, it is easy to go out and do things. We all have our favorite seasons and mine is Winter fun time to drive my Bird around.

James, I spent almost every other weekend in Corpus Christi with my dad's parents from the time I was born (1952). I remember what it was like, before their house was air conditioned. The fan at the foot of the bed, droning away, and flipping the pillow to the "cool side." Same story at our house, about 80 miles west of Houston. Window unit a/c changed our lives. The cooling breezes in October were so welcome! How I envied my friends who lived in houses with central air and heat.

September also brings us some fun pennant races to determine the postseason MLB teams.
