  • Re: 2009 T-Bird sightings

Was pulling out of the local Ford dealership after getting an oil change and a checkup...waved at a black bird with a red interior turning in...and actually got an enthusiastic wave back!

Last week I attended the Southern Ontario Thunderbird Club 30th anniversary celebrations in Bayfield, Ontario Canada. We had 21 Retro-Birds of various colors including 2 Coral, 5 Red, 3 Black, 6 Thunderbird Blue, 2 Silver, 1 Cashmere, 2 Yellow.
There were 70 Thunderbirds of various years all gathered in one place from 55 thru 05 and great turnout. Had the weather been better (rain) the numbers could have been higher.

I will bet that seeing 70 Birds in one venue was an exciting event. I wish I could see that. Most I have seen is about 17 in San Antonio at a get together.

                Dennis,

You need to come to Chattanooga Choo Choo Thunder in October. At the rate the event is growing, we'll be at 70 cars! It really is something to see & once you do, you're hooked.

I saw a VMG Tuesday evening on my way to Fleet Landing Restaurant & Bar in Charleston, SC on the harbor. The Restaurant building used to be a submarine facility for the USN back in the 60s. It's a shame more Tbird owners haven't discovered TBN yet.

I think there were about that many at Maggie Valley, NC attending the Beach Boys concert. I know the caravan was endless!

I know this thread is primarily for Retro Bird sightings, but I was totally taken aback last night!

My friend, Glenn, and I were returning from a great Cajun restaurant and were entering Lakewood Shopping Center. We were in BabyGirl, my Red '57 (white hardtop on). Pulled into the center of the area, and in the right lane...a Red topless '57 pulls up next to us!! Nothing to do but stop...yes, right inthe middle of traffic...and just stare at each car! Exchanged a little light banter...and we each went on our way!

Wish I'd have had time to pull out my camera. but the absolute surprise and delight of those brief, totally unexpected moments, will bring a smile to my face for a long time to come!

Aug 9 and not driving ours, we were returning home from a Saturday Bob Dylan concert in Lubbock (ok, Wilie Nelson and John Mellencamp were there, too), at about 5:45p, we spotted a Whisper White 'Bird coming up from behind at a determined clip (easy to ID even at 1/4 mile). 'Soft top was up and last seen heading into College Station and we waved to our new friend as we exited for home.

August 7 - On our way from Manhattan to "the Hamptons" to accept delivery of our "new" 2005 Evening Black Thunderbird right off the enclosed carrier from Phoenix, we spotted an Evening Black with the black and red interior heading East around Exit 55. We tried to catch driver's attention but we were in the HOV lane and he was in the right lane.

August 8 - we went for a top-down, shake down ride to Long Island's "North Fork" and spotted a Torch Red 2002 in a Mattituck shopping center that turned out to be owned by a couple from Shelter Island. They winter on Florida's West Coast and they drive their 70,000 mile Bird back and forth every year and they love it.

August 9 - I spotted a Turquoise Thunderbird with New Jersey license plates parked across from the Southampton movie theater and waited for awhile to meet the owner but finally had to leave.

Dennis: Our local club actually has 230+ members and probably 600 cars the highest we have had out to one meet was 87 a year ago not bad for a country where we have only get to drive them 5 or 6 months out of the year.

We have to have fun, fun, fun......while we can!
